CIPS Edmonton Security SIG presentation

Filed under: Security — Lisa @ 2:23 pm

So today I gave a presentation at the Security SIG. Normally the SIG sees presentations on how to do security better in a corporate environment. But this time I asked the question - Should the SIG be involved in security awareness for the public? That is, should we be doing outreach?

This all came about because Mary Jane has coerced invited me to give a computer security presentation/talk at EPL’s Jasper Place branch in the fall. Since I was trying to figure out what to present, I figured it would only make sense to ask the fine folks at the SIG. But then, the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to explore the idea of the SIG being involved in creating some set slides or presentations or ’something’ that anyone could use. I think I’d like to release the work under a creative commons license.

Anyhow, I’ve put out the call for help. It looks like there were a few people willing to help me create a framework, some content, some demonstrations/activities, and then even to help deliver the message. This is going to be fun.

Now, as I promised those who attended, I’ll be posting my slides here. I used some quotes from other sources (all documented in the presentation as embedded hyperlinks and/or in the notes pages. I offer the presentation to you under a CC license - see the Notes on the title slide for details. Click the link below to get a Powerpoint 2003 copy of the presentation.
